SML PAINTING CONTRACTORS
Health & Safety
We operate using a comprehensive system of work to meet all health and safety requirements, both as a Principal Contractor and a Contractor.
Our company holds all the essential health and safety certifications, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. We are CHAS approved—the industry’s recognised Health and Safety accreditation—along with being a member of Constructionline approved. Furthermore, all of our tradesmen are CSCS registered, ensuring they meet the industry standards for health and safety. To maintain rigorous safety standards, we work with an independent health and safety advisor who conducts regular audits on our procedures.
Training is a fundamental part of our approach. From day one, our employees receive thorough training during company inductions, with ongoing programs to keep them up-to-date with the latest health and safety legislation. This includes dedicated training days, toolbox talks on-site, and annual company-wide training sessions.
For every project, we carry out risk assessments and method statements to identify potential hazards and put the necessary control measures in place. We also ensure all of our operatives have completed DBS checks for added safety.
To ensure Health and Safety is effectively managed across every site, we implement the following key activities:
Risk Assessments: Carried out for all work with significant risks, ensuring control measures are in place to protect site personnel and anyone else affected. These are communicated during site inductions.
Site Safety Plans: Adequate signage is placed, and a health and safety plan, along with project method statements, are developed and strictly followed by supervisors.
PPE Compliance: All operatives are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for each task.
Supervision and Inspections: Close monitoring with regular, both planned and unplanned, inspections to ensure compliance.
Equipment Checks: Regular maintenance and checks on plant and equipment to ensure it is being used correctly and safely.
Toolbox Talks: Regularly scheduled talks to reinforce health and safety awareness on-site.
COSHH Assessments: Completed and communicated to operatives to ensure proper handling of hazardous substances.
Appropriate Training: Operatives are specifically trained for the tasks at hand to avoid accidents or near-misses.
At SML Painting Contractors, we constantly strive to improve our health and safety procedures through a continuous cycle of improvement, ensuring a safer environment for everyone involved.
